Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is not to be confused with thermal or cutting lasers that heat the skin, as low level laser therapy is also referred to as cold laser therapy, as it does not heat the skin to cause effect, but works by placing a photon (light) beam into injured tissue, promoting faster healing and recovery. It can also block pain signals, as it stimulates the release of our body’s natural painkillers known as endorphins and provides a rapid and effective form of pain relief and may eliminate the need for painkilling drugs, when treating a wide variety of medical and cosmetic conditions.

In the UK, a large volume of controlled research has been carried out in centres of excellence such as Guy’s Hospital Tissue Repair Unit, Oxford University, Ulster University, Cambridge Military Hospital and Northampton School of Podiatry.
